Each month, we highlight one Bohlsen Group staff member who represents the best of our work and the culture here at Bohlsen Group, and let you sit down for a virtual beer together. This month’s honoree is Publicist Jade Schwarting, who conducts media outreach and social media trainings for our largest client, Author Solutions, as well as assists in outreach for our Events & Entertainment division.
Jade has been such a pleasure to have on the team – she has such a great attitude, pays attention to detail, and produces media hits with her outreach.
She was originally nominated by Vice President Andrew Hayenga because her quality of work promoting Komen’s Race for the Cure earlier this year was strong, his experience with her in our pro-bono Brackets for Good work was great, and he had heard positive comments from Vice President Andy Wilson and Executive Lauren Cascio, as well.
Lauren affirmed Andrew’s nomination, saying that Jade picked up work with her largest client, Author Solutions, quite quickly. Andy agreed with me that Jade has a great attitude and is a pleasure to be around. He praised her events work with the Bicentennial Torch Relay and the National Train Show, saying that she “really knows how to get the hits, man!”
So, congratulations to Jade! I can’t wait to hear more about her favorite beer…
I try to drink local beers as much as possible – a few favorites are Upland Wheat, Sun King Sunlight Cream Ale and 3 Floyds Gumballhead.
What’s your current obsession or inspiration?
Local coffee. My fiancé Alex and I try a new local coffee shop around town nearly every weekend – we even have a Google Doc with “reviews” of each place. Our current favorite is Open Society in the Meridian Kessler area.
I’ve also been watching Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown. If you like travel + food + interesting people, you’ll love it.
Favorite thing about working in the PR/Marketing industry?
I get to work on a variety of clients and also learn about many industries, companies, nonprofits, etc. that I wouldn’t have the chance to know about otherwise. It’s really never boring with so many different types of projects and clients to be worked on; I’m definitely always learning something new.
How do you know you’ve had a successful day?
I love lists. Every day I separate my tasks into three sections: ‘must do,’ ‘should do,’ and ‘if time.’ If I get through my ‘must do’ and ‘should do’ sections, the day was successful. And if I make headway on my ‘if time’ items, the coffee must have really been flowing!
Preferred cause: What’s one nonprofit or cause that you are passionate about or volunteer for?
I’m obsessed with dogs, so I foster through the Humane Society of Indianapolis. If we’ve ever spoken, I’ve probably tried to sell you on the whole fostering thing since it’s really the coolest and one of the most selfless things I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with.
I’ll also be a volunteer tutor for School on Wheels beginning this fall! The organization provides one-on-one tutoring and educational advocacy for school-aged children in Indianapolis impacted by homelessness.
Kids + Dogs = Happy Jade
Best advice you’ve ever received?
I don’t have some huge admiration for Hugh Laurie, but a quote of his is something that’s stuck with me since I first heard it: “It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.”
