Each month, we highlight one Bohlsen Group staff member who represents the best of our work and the culture here at Bohlsen Group, and let you sit down for a virtual beer together. This month’s honoree is Account Coordinator Courtney Alvey, who handles account coordination and planning for Bohlsen Group clients, in particular publishing houses Author Solutions and Sigma Theta Tau International, the Honor Society of Nursing.
Courtney has been a steady hand at Bohlsen Group month after month and is so well deserving of being highlighted as an outstanding contributor! From helping administratively on the company’s largest client to making clients happy with results-driven publicity campaigns, Courtney has certainly been impactful. Recently, her expertise has been successfully applied to a number of new projects across the company, from 2016 strategic planning to events and entertainment campaigns.
Thank you, Courtney, for your great attitude and work, and for knowing that if we ever need Post-It notes, that they are just one short walk away.
Beer of Choice?
If I am in the mood for a beer, it’s SunKing’s Sunlight Cream Ale. Most days, though, I prefer a sweet white wine.
Current obsession or inspiration?
I recently finished reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. The book shares the KonMari method of tidying, which was developed by the author, an organization consultant. She encourages readers to go through their belongings in a specific order, only keeping the ones that spark joy. It has really helped me change my mindset, and it’s also in the midst of transforming my home!
How do you know you’ve had a successful day?
All of the Post-Its are gone. (I developed an organizational system that involves each of my daily tasks being written on individual Post-It notes, so if they’re all gone, I’ve been SUPER productive!)
Favorite thing about working in the PR/Marketing industry?
For a long time, I didn’t really know what to do with being both left-brained and right-brained. Then I found PR! I like that this industry not only allows but also encourages me to be both incredibly creative and highly analytical.
Cause you’re passionate about?
I’m passionate about ending human trafficking. I even started a student group when I was in college to raise awareness about the topic and funds to contribute to organizations that exist to help stop it. So many people don’t realize that slavery still exists today—even in the United States!
Best advice you’ve ever received?
“A lion does not lose sleep over the opinion of sheep.” It’s really easy to feel worn down or devalued by other people’s commentary, but it’s important to remember to take constructive criticism from people who have the knowledge and experience to make you better—let everything else roll off your back. It’s something I still have to work on every day!
